To ensure the longevity and performance of your pricking irons:

Use a professional cutting mat or nylon board as your base. Avoid soft or overly elastic materials, as well as wooden boards — their inconsistent hardness can increase the risk of broken teeth.
When punching, stop as soon as the teeth just pass through the leather. Ideally, there should only be a light mark left on the surface of the cutting board.
Avoid driving the teeth too deep into the base, as this can cause unnecessary stress and potential damage to the tool.
